Equestrian Summer Camp Volunteer for Disabled and Not Disabled Children
During the summer after sixth grade I volunteered at a horse barn for a week where I helped maintain stalls, groom, set up tack, clean tack, and walk the horses. I also assisted the children on train rides, eating lunch, and helped with vaulting lessons for the disabled children. The experience really opened my eyes to the vicissitudes of disabled life, but also helped me learn how to embrace it in a positive way. Additionally, I gained some valuable horse experience that I definitely enabled later on when I spent a lot of time during the week at riding lessons.
