Lasting Adventures, Inc.

Throughout the summer, Lasting Adventures, Inc. guides youth ages 11-18 on memorable excursions in and around the Yosemite backcountry. While having fun, making new friends, and learning about the outdoors, these one and two week-long excursions focus on positive youth development. Staffed by professional educators and naturalists, our mission is to use the natural environment and outdoor activities to teach youth the necessary skills and attitudes for living successful lives. Through safe risk taking opportunities, participants will be challenged to improve their sense of self-esteem, self-worth, and self-confidence. Along with creating lasting memories, it is our goal that participants will finish this adventure with a greater knowledge of themselves, the world, and the environment around them. Lasting Adventures, Inc. – by the numbers: 14 – This summer marks our 14th season guiding in Yosemite National Park. 37 – Bears chased off. 40 – Our program is based on the Search Institute's 40 Developmental Assets. 64 – We have successfully guided participants to the top of Half Dome 64 times. 85 – Lasting Adventures, Inc. has a return rate of over 85% 90 – We have benefited an average of 90 youth a summer with our adventure programs. 850 – We have provided partial and full-scholarships for over 850 participants. 2,200 – Over 2,200 participants we have guided in the Yosemite backcountry. 3,600 – Over 3,600 miles hiked by our program in Yosemite. 53,000 – Over 53,000 participant miles hiked in Yosemite. Millions – The amount of special and “lasting” memories created on our adventures. The objectives of Lasting Adventures include: Increasing personal confidence through activities that give physical and emotional challenge. Developing behaviors and character skills that include integrity, honesty, responsibility, respect, compassion, and self-discipline. Providing experiences in leadership and group problem solving techniques. Having fun and developing lasting relationships and great memories! Additional outcomes of this adventure will include: backpacking skills, back country ethics, environmental awareness, and embracing the seven principles of Leave No Trace ethics. Lasting Adventures, Inc. works with schools and community partners to provide scholarships so that “at-risk” and “disadvantaged” youth can participate in our summer backpacking adventures. Since 1996 Lasting Adventures, Inc. has been one of the few leading non-profit guide services in Yosemite National Park, and we do offer programs and guide services to the general public.
