Studies show that students who participate in community service in high school become more engaged citizens, vote more often and lead successful lives as adults.
When high school students engage in meaningful community service, especially when the service is integrated into course curriculum and supported by adult mentors, students build self confidence in their own abilities to address emerging community needs. Studies show that as adults they are more engaged citizens, vote more often and are more likely to graduate from college.
At the Boomerang Foundation, we are gathering resources for students to encourage service learning in high school. Studies confirming the value of service learning, lesson plans and goals for the future will be gathered, posted and shared.
